About TEDxTrondheim

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxTrondheim, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxTrondheim events, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Next event: TEDGlobal 2013 »

Rethinking Green

We’ll hear from 3 live speakers and show a hand-picked selection of amazing TED videos.

  • Jørgen Randers is internationally known for co-authoring the pivotal book “Limits to Growth” 30 years ago, will be giving a talk about his global forecast for the next 40 years.
  • Daniel Mueller is lead author on the IPCC and professor at NTNU, who will give a talk about why stocks matter.
  • Pia Otte will talk about her unexpected lessons from working with solar cookers in developing countries.

Outliers - Exploring out of the ordinary ideas

10:00 - 17:00 Thursday 1. November 2012, Storsalen, Studentersamfuntet

TEDxTrondheim Promo Video from TEDxTrondheim on Vimeo.

What does it mean to be an outlier, to stand out, and to deviate from the norm? In many ways, Norway is an outlier relative to the rest of the world, so we’ll look at different aspects that make this country unique. In contrast, individuals within Norwegian society are generally not encouraged to stand out, so we’ll also look at how individuals can break the mold. We’ll hear ideas from a diverse array of speakers including an unconventional educator, polar explorer, cross-cultural expert, humourous farmer, childlike dreamer, arctic photographer and much more.

This is not your average conference. You’ll be exposed to many different ideas, stories, and perspectives that will expand your sense of curiousity. Join us for the very first TEDx conference in Trondheim on Nov. 1st, where an amazing group of speakers and attendees will connect through a shared passion for big ideas.

10:00-17:00, November 1st

What is TED and TEDxTrondheim?

TED is a non-profit platform for spreading big ideas on literally any topic, including Technology, Entertainment, and Design. On TED.com, thousands of the world’s greatest thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. These mind-blowing videos spread virally online to millions around the world.

TEDxTrondheim is powered by a passionate group of volunteers that organize TED-like events, with the aim of spreading great ideas and creating a vibrant local community in Trondheim. The “x” indicates that we are a certified and independently organized TED event. Since 2009, there have been over 3200 TEDx events across 126 countries.

Main Event

We host a full-day TEDx conference with an inspiring lineup of speakers once year. Last year’s theme was “Outliers: Exploring out of the ordinary ideas”. You can watch the talks again on our YouTube playlist

Monthly Events

When we are not busy organizing the main event we host smaller monthly “Salon” events for free at Byscenen. We explore a different theme every month, with handpicked TED videos, one live speaker, and opportunities to socialize with fellow TED fans. Next event: TEDGlobal 2013 »

Occasionally, instead of Salon events, we host livestream events where we show one or more sessions (in real-time) from major TED conferences such as TED, TEDGlobal, and TEDWomen.
